“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their field of endeavor” – Vince Lombardi
If you are going to do anything in life well it takes some measure of effort, whether it’s business, fitness or a relationship. Marriage, no matter how great your relationship is, takes work. Most couples spend the majority of their day (at least their waking hours) away from one another, 5 days a week.
To be cohesive as a couple, to continue to grow together and exist together it takes some work. Sometimes, as in any relationship there are disagreements and things that need to be worked through. Conflict is unavoidable, we are human and fallible with different upbringings, thoughts and opinions after all. We can however keep the peace more often and avoid conflict as much as possible when we commit to excellence.
I don’t know about you but my relationship with my husband my most important. My husband really and truly is my best friend, I absolutely love to spend time with him and it never seems like enough. We love to have fun and laugh together. With busy lives, work, kids, responsibility it can be so difficult to find the time for one another. Because it is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day that it is necessary to make time for one another. This can be difficult with kids and busy schedules. You don’t always have time, energy or the finances for a weekend away or a date night. So, why not a date night at home?
Once a week or maybe every other week (depending on your schedule) pick a day ahead of time that works for you both. Keep it simple, this is not about being fancy it’s about spending time with your favorite person. Plan ahead for your kids, it will probably be a school night. Have them do their homework ahead of time, order a pizza, pick up a Redbox movie and send them in the other room (this can be fun night for them too). Order Chinese food and break out the Yahtzee, mix up some drinks and enjoy. Or maybe you are more burgers, milkshakes and romantic comedy type couple, it really doesn’t matter what it is just schedule it and spend a fun evening with your spouse, you deserve it, so does the excellence of your marriage.
